Barnett
Reservoir against pollution and unauthorized dumping has always
been one of the primary missions of the Pearl River Valley Water
Supply District (“PRVWSD”). Although dumping sites can be an
eye sore to areas such as the up-river sandbars, which are
naturally beautiful habitats, there are many more health and
safety issues related to the Barnett Reservoir. Such problems
include: (a) habitat for snakes, alligators, mosquitos and
possible other disease carrying animals; (b) possible dangerous
materials such as rusted cans, old batteries, rotting carpets,
empty coolers, barbeque grills and abandoned appliances; and (c)
most importantly possible contamination to a natural
groundwater/surface water supply.
This year, the PRVWSD is asking all of its boaters and
patrons to make a conscious environmental effort to remove all
debris associated with your use of the lake.
